We have been retained on a confidential executive search to recruit a Director of Electronic Warfare for a multi-billion-dollar Defense Company. Our client is a leading provider of innovative, high-performance technology and system solutions for critical missions. Our client focuses on product lines in the commercial aviation, defense, medical instrumentation, and homeland security markets.

Position Summary

The Director of Electronic Warfare will identify, qualify and capture new business in the Electronic Warfare market segment. S/He will do so by using expert technical knowledge, program management skills and business development experience. In addition, this individual will plan and recommend BD and marketing strategies to achieve maximum customer and market penetration and to drive tactical and strategic growth. The Director will have direct responsibility for the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contracts.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Grow the opportunity pipeline, to include existing as well as adjacent markets/customers, through diligent and timely identification/qualification of new business opportunities by leveraging current technologies, customer intimacies, and inter-company collaboration
  • Develop and execute strategic and tactical plans for the pursuit and successful capture of key opportunities
  • Support the development of an on-going multiple year strategic roadmap by providing EW expertise
  • Prepare product roadmaps to identify where US warfighters will go in the next 10 years; with emphasis on major areas such as fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft upgrades and technologies / solutions
  • Obtain marketing intelligence and competitive data pertaining to potential targeted pursuits, and develop marketing strategies
  • Participate in bid decisions and the development of cost strategies and phase reviews
  • Conduct customer visits and perform research to understand current and emerging customer needs and requirements
  • Establish, build, and maintain customer relationships and assess competitor capabilities aligned with specific customers in selected DoD market space
  • Define and direct the performance of program functional task elements such as procurement, manufacturing, quality, configuration, logistics, administrative functions, contracts administration, facilities, etc.
  • Mentoring personnel and implementing diversity and diversification of personnel to build an organization capable of sustained performance excellence and growth.
  • Participate in IRAD and B&P planning for the division as well as overhead budgets
  • Evaluate current company strengths and weakness and reorganize

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business-related discipline; Master’s or equivalent (preferred)
  • Demonstrated success leading and winning contracts
  • Detailed knowledge of how the US military services originate and develop requirements into acquisitions
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Electronic Warfare experience
  • Ability to identify, establish and use important customer relationships with senior level officials and program stakeholders in DoD Service organizations (Navy, Air Force, Army, Air National Guard)
  • Significant experience with, or knowledge of Radar Warning Receivers (RWR), Laser Warning Systems (LWS), IR Missile Warning Systems (MWS), Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) and chaff/flare for fixed and rotary aircraft
  • Knowledge of Government contracting and current acquisition trends and customer buying behaviors. Knowledge of competitors and ability to model competitor behaviors in the market
  • Experience in budget management of B&P, IRAD and overhead dollars
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
